PEERS Social Skills Group for Teens

The PEERS Program is a 14-week evidence-based social skills intervention for youth between 12-18 years of age, who are interested in making and maintaining friendships.

Skills taught in PEERS Social Skills Group for Teens

  • Use correct conversational Skills

  • Find common interests by trading information

  • Appropriately use humour

  • Enter and exit conversations between peers

  • Handle rejection, teaching, and bullying

  • Handle rumours and gossip

  • Be a good host during get-togethers

  • Make phone calls to friends

  • Be a good sport

  • Handle Arguements and disagreements

  • Change a bad reputation

Family members or youth coaches (which can be provided) are an important part of this program. When the youth attend a class, the parent or coach also attends a class. The PEERS curriculum for caregivers is taught in these classes. Family or youth coach participation is required, so please let us know if you need assistance in providing a coach.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD

  • Between 12-18 years of age

  • Would like to socialize with others

  • Can behave appropriately in a group setting
